1 Chronicles 28:20: And David said to Solomon his son, be strong and of good courage, and do it: fear not, nor be dismayed: for the Lord God, even my God, will be with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee, until thou hast finished all the work for the service of the house of the Lord. Although this was a statement that was made by David to his son Solomon, I believe that this statement was recorded in the Bible for a purpose. I believe that it was to be spoken into the heart of every believer’s life. I would like to tell you how this statement has been confirmed in my life.
My husband and I were married on September 8, 2001. After the reception, we said our goodbyes to our family and friends and began our way to begin our honeymoon. All of a sudden, we heard a loud noise. My husband pulled into a local gas station and discovered that we had a flat tire. He placed the spare tire on our car and we continued towards our hotel room. In the morning, we had our tire repaired at Sears once they were opened. These events were saddening, because this was not how your honeymoon is supposed to start out.
Due to the unexpected delays with our car repair we decided to change our honeymoon destination. Instead of driving to New York City and Canada, we decided to stay closer to home and travel to Indiana. As we awakened on the morning of September 11, 2001, we turned on the television to find that every channel was showing live coverage of the bombing that was occurring at the World Trade Center in New York City. We had a sickening feeling in our stomachs, neither one of us had spoken to our parents since we had last seen them at the wedding reception. We then called our worried parents to let them know that we were safe and sound, and that we were in Indiana instead of New York.
Call me superstitious if you want to, because I do believe in chance. Some might read this post and say, so what? So you were on your honeymoon. What does this situation have to do with being in New York? It was by chance that we were not in New York. It was very sobering to think that if we had not had a flat tire on our wedding night, we could have continued on with our original honeymoon plans and could have possibly been a victim of the attacks on America on September 11, 2001.
In the scripture listed above, it says that Lord God will not fail thee, nor forsake thee, until thou hast finished all the work for the service of the house of the Lord. As we sat in our hotel room and watched the live coverage of the attacks, we instantly knew that God was not finished with us. He still had a purpose to fulfill in our lives. This event caused us to have a new outlook on life. Every year as we celebrate our anniversary, we are again reminded at how precious our lives really are, and how grateful that we were allowed to begin our lives together.

This was a very good read for me. I myself am a firm believer that God works in mysterious ways. Everything that happens, happens for a reason. I live by that. It was very unfortunate that you and your husband had a flat tire on your honeymoon night but I am very happen that God had other plans for you. Its a very good reflection to look back on on your anniversary. Life is short that’s for sure and I’m glad that you two are able to make the most of it. Thank you for sharing!

Hi Lisa! I also wrote my blog about a scripture .Mine was from Ecc. 3:1. I have heard other stories of people who were supposed to be in NYC on 9/11 yet something in their lives happened to keep them from going. Reading stories like these are very powerful. It must be hard to go through something like that, because on one hand you would feel blessed to have been spared, but on the other hand you (much like the rest of the country) probably felt so much sadness as well. I really liked reading your story and it was well put together and easy to read!

Moments of Awesomeness — Lisa — For those of us who are old enough, I think as soon as we read your wedding date, we knew. So it was really smart to drop your wedding date in there and let that create tension. Tension is a really important part of narrative writing that inexperienced writers aren’t always aware of. Some early writers give everything away at the beginning of a story so then there’s no reason to keep reading. But you did a nice job here having us wonder how this was all going to relate to 9/11.
Next time — Another really important feature of successful narrative writing is SHOWING instead of telling. So next time you write a story (or a story within a piece), I want you to think about this. If you had SHOWN that flat tire incident and what you and your new husband were thinking and saying through that, we would’ve been in that moment with you, feeling like disappointed (maybe even cursed) newlyweds.That would’ve been far more powerful than your telling us that all of this had been “saddening,” right? So next time, think about dialogue to show conversations happening and inner monologue to show what characters are thinking so that readers feel like they’re there, in that moment with the characters.

first off I would like to say Happy Anniversary . This piece was deep and meaningful to me , I learned about 911 while in school I think I was in kindergarten when the attack happened but learned more about it as I got older, me being the emotional person I am it hurts my heart that we lost so many people on that day. I believe in god but maybe not enough as I should, but I do believe god had something to do with that flat tire that caused you and your husband to change your honeymoon plans. Thank you for sharing

This story is crazy. I mean this in the best way, I feel as if you were right about God not being done with you. I have been deeply rooted in my faith, due to the fact that I am as what some may call a cradle catholic. To imagine ever having to go through a situation like this would definitely give me more reason to believe in my faith and question as to which why me? They you speak in this post is very smooth and easy to read and the story is beyond words because of the gravity of the occurrences. Great Job!

The bombing in New York was a very sad situation that happened here in the America my heart goes out to those families that still suffers from those very scary moments! I will say that god was giving you signs to not head that way and I know you are more than grateful now that you look back on that day! God is not done with you! God bless!

As Einstein said, “God does not roll dice”, and although he may have been referencing quantum theory, it can echo strongly in other aspects of life as well.
